What are the types of armature winding?

Lap winding: In this type of winding, each coil spans several commutator segments and is connected to adjacent coils to form a closed loop. The number of coils in the winding is equal to the number of commutator segments.
Wave winding: In this type of winding, each coil spans two commutator segments and is connected to coils that are separated by one or more commutator segments. The number of coils in the winding is equal to half the number of commutator segments.
Progressive winding: This is a type of wave winding in which the coils are connected in a specific sequence to produce a unidirectional magnetic field.
Retrogressive winding: This is another type of wave winding in which the coils are connected in a reverse sequence to produce a unidirectional magnetic field.
The choice of armature winding depends on the specific application of the electrical machine, as each type of winding has its own advantages and disadvantages.
